John has been involved in the Australian turf industry for almost 30 years. “When I first started turf was hand cut, rolled and loaded from the paddock. Things are very different today with large commercial operations using mechanized harvesting, loading and unloading.”

John has been involved in production of turf for projects in Australia and overseas. He was also managed and oversaw the development, patenting and marketing of a revolutionary erosion control turf product in Australia and the USA.

John discovered Limerick (TF01) south of Coffs Harbour in the Bellinger valley in about 2003. “I had seen some of the new Buffalo grasses in America and this grass looked similar, so we started to grow some. I now have it in my yard and we love it.”

Limerick is a true, all-round Buffalo turf variety which has been trialed against most other commercial varieties in the Australian Buffalo Trials conducted by the Queensland DPI. Testing demonstrates that Limerick (Stenotaphrum secundatum TF01) is not only capable, but performs with excellence in a wide range of environments, making it perfect for all projects—from the smallest Aussie backyard to the most prestigious and alluring parks and gardens.

John believes Limerick will offer a cost effective alternative to some of the big name varieties. “We don’t plan to take over the world. We want to give growers something they can grow and sell with confidence and a grass that homeowners can trust to give them a beautiful lawn for their family to enjoy”
